LafargeHolcim would like to collaborate with the government on sustainable waste management

LafargeHolcim Bangladesh Ltd, a leading multinational cement manufacturer, has expressed interest in working with the Ministry of Environment on sustainable waste management.

Mohammad Iqbal Chowdhury, Chief Executive Officer of LafargeHolcim Bangladesh, paid a courtesy call on Minister of Environment, Forest and Climate Change Saber Hossain Chowdhury on Sunday, according to a press release.

During the meeting, LafargeHolcim expressed interest in collaborating with the Ministry of Environment in the field of sustainable waste management.

At the beginning of the meeting, LafargeHolcim officials briefed the minister on the overall waste situation in the country and the company’s initiative called ‘Geocycle’ to tackle this problem. The minister commended the company for ensuring municipal solid waste management and circular economy through Geocycle.

Electronic waste, a major problem for Bangladesh, was a major topic in the discussion. A model for such waste management was presented by LafargeHolcim and the necessary policies were highlighted.

The company officials also provided details on sustainable waste management in other countries.

Moreover, LafargeHolcim officials informed the minister about LafargeHolcim’s initiative to manufacture environmentally friendly blocks.

The minister commended LafargeHolcim for its sustainable waste management program and requested to work towards familiarizing Bangladesh with the best waste management practices of different countries.

At the end of the meeting, the company’s CEO presented the sustainability report, which was published for the first time, to the minister.

Asif Bhuiyan, Chief Corporate Affairs Officer of LHBL, and Moumita Chakraborty, Geocycle Head of Holcim Group’s Asia, Middle East and Africa Region, along with senior officials of the company, were present during the visit.
