Shining a light on safety

The Health and Safety Event is the industry’s must-attend event, taking place at the NEC in Birmingham from April 30 to May 2, 2024. Kelly Rose talks to events director David Bishop to find out more about this upcoming event.

The Health and Safety Event is now getting close. What can you tell me about this year’s event?

The event will take place from 30 April – 2 May 2024 at the NEC, Birmingham and is the industry’s premier health and safety event. We have more than 300 exhibitors and the floor space is over 7,000 m22so it’s bigger and better than ever before and you’ll find solutions to most workplace challenges.

It’s completely free, and by combining and reaching the caliber of exhibitors with the quality of the educational content, we’re offering attendees a truly outstanding event for the health and safety industry.

We have aimed to create a platform where everyone in the health and safety sector can celebrate, inform, share and network at this face-to-face event. Professionals in this industry do everything they can to ensure that their colleagues return home safe and sound at the end of the working day. Companies would like to share this expertise with you. The show supports this and through these interactive options visitors will gain valuable insights from the show.

What sets the event apart from other events covering the sector?

Location is crucial for the health and safety sector and in terms of facilities and central location, NEC ticks all the boxes. There is plenty of free parking, an excellent train network, an international airport and a large choice of hotels. In addition, Resort World has a range of excellent bars and restaurants and is a fantastic venue for the evening and many businesses network with customers there.

The Safety & Health Excellence Awards take place on Wednesday evening at The Vox, which supports and sponsors Nineteen Group. This is a valuable addition and fantastic synergy with the event, providing a new networking opportunity for the health and safety community. The NEC is therefore the right place for you if you work in this industry.

Can you give me insight into which associations will be present at the event?

IOSH, Health & Safety Executive, British Safety Industry Federation (BSIF), NEBOSH, IEMA. IIRSM, UKATA, Highways England, SAFed, SHEP and many more industry bodies and associations have confirmed their participation in the show and will be on hand to chat. Don’t miss this opportunity to speak directly to industry experts; the knowledge and insights offered are invaluable.

This year the Registered Safety Supplier Trail – in collaboration with the BSIF – returns. All suppliers on this route are members of BSIF and have signed a binding declaration that the safety equipment and services they provide meet the appropriate standards, fully comply with PPE regulations and are appropriately marked. Follow the trail and be assured that the PPE you purchase comes from a registered safety supplier.

Can you tell us some brands that will be part of the exhibition this year?

We are working with a number of leading partners at the event, so I will mention these as they have been working with us for a number of years: Uvex, Portwest, JSP, U-Power, Skechers, RS, Draeger, EcoOnline, Mascot International, MSA and Milwaukee and you can view the complete and current exhibitor list online at www.healthandsafetyevent.com
