Ranveer Singh Takes Legal Action Against AI-Generated Deepfake Video; FIR filed confirms spokesperson

New Delhi: Known for captivating audiences both on and off screen, Bollywood superstar Ranveer Singh recently got entangled in a new digital crime. A fabricated AI (artificial intelligence) generated deepfake video, which allegedly showed the actor expressing political views during his recent visit to Varanasi, which recently surfaced online. While the footage appeared authentic, the audio featured an AI-enabled voice clone of Ranveer Singh.

In a recent development, Ranveer Singh’s official spokesperson confirmed that a formal police complaint has been filed and an FIR has been filed with the Cyber ​​Crime Cell for further investigation. Giving an insight into the situation, the spokesperson said, “Yes, we have filed a police complaint and an FIR has been lodged against the handle that promoted Mr Ranveer Singh’s AI-generated deepfake video.”

Police file FIR after deepfake video of Aamir Khan surfaces

Besides Ranveer Singh, a deepfake video of Aamir Khan supporting a political party has been widely circulated on social media platforms. The video prompted the Mumbai Police to register an FIR. The FIR, filed at Khar police station by Khan’s office, cited relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code, including 419 (impersonation) and 420 (cheating), besides other provisions of the Information Technology Act.

Calling the video ‘fake’, Aamir Khan’s spokesperson released a statement saying: “We would like to make it clear that Mr. Aamir Khan has never supported any political party during his 35-year career. He has dedicated his efforts to raising awareness through Election Commission awareness campaigns for many past elections.”
