Earth Day: Meet the eco-activists under 30 on a mission to save London

Founded in London by friends Nadeem Perera (who has since moved to Bristol) and Ollie Olanipekun, birdwatching collective Flock Together was initially a way to get the POC community out into nature – to challenge the underrepresentation in that space. But what started as a handful of fifteen people will now regularly be three hundred strong. “We have reached a huge audience,” says Perera. “How can we now bring our energy, our ideas and our cultural creativity into this natural, historic outdoor space? For whatever reason, we (as POC) experience more hardship and suffering, and nature is a very, very accessible and easy way for people to get involved.” Perera is also a youth sports coach. “I think that is very important: a cross-pollination of these spaces. We need to meet people where they are. We are breaking down those barriers and making the outdoors and ecological space accessible to a new audience.”
