Siddaramaiah orders CID probe, victim’s father claims she refused religious conversion

Congress councilor Niranjan Hiremath, whose daughter was allegedly murdered by her ex-classmate Fayaz Khondunaik in her college, alleged that her daughter was killed after she ‘denied religious conversion’. Neha Hiremath, a first-year Master of Computer Applications (MCA) student at KLE Technological University in Hubballi, was murdered on her college campus earlier this month. The incident sparked massive outrage with people condemning the incident across the state.

-Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah ordered a CID probe into the incident. He also said a special court will hear the case. Opposition parties in the state, however, are demanding a CBI probe into the incident.

– Niranjan Hiremath alleged that his daughter fell prey to ‘love jihad’. However, the suspect’s mother claimed that the duo was in love and the girl made the first move.

– BJP chief JP Nadda met Neha Hiremath’s family on Sunday. He reprimanded the state government for poor rule of law and added that the case should be transferred to the CBI.

– Karnataka Women’s Commission Chairperson Naglakshmi Choudhary said the evidence in the case has been collected and justice will be served soon after the DNA test reports are out.

-BJP state unit president BY Vijayendra and party workers staged a protest in Mysuru condemning the killing of Neha Hiremath.

– The Anjuman-e-Islam, Dharwad, observed a half-day bandh from 10 am to 3 pm to condole Neha’s killing and express solidarity with the bereaved family. Muslim shop owners put up banners reading ‘Justice for Neha’.

– Campus CCTV footage shows Fayaz repeatedly stabbing Neha with a knife before fleeing the scene. The university authorities and students immediately took Neha to the hospital where she was declared brought dead.
