Kate Middleton’s ‘touching’ midnight tradition for Prince Louis’ birthday

The Princess of Wales is likely to prepare to carry out a ‘touching’ tradition tonight to celebrate Prince Louis’ birthday today.

The youngest member of the Wales family will celebrate his sixth birthday tomorrow (April 23).

Kate, 42, previously revealed she celebrates her children’s birthdays at the stroke of midnight by staying up late to make them a cake.

“I love making the cake,” the mother of three said in 2019 as she appeared on the BBC program with Prince William A Berry Royal Christmas with Maria Berry.

“It’s become a bit of a tradition that I stay up until midnight with ridiculous amounts of cake mix and frosting, and I make way too much,” she explained. “But I love it.”

This is likely to be a nervous time for Kate too – as the royal family usually releases a new portrait of the Welsh children to mark their birthdays.

However, following the scandal that emerged after Kensington Palace released a doctored photo of Kate and her three children to celebrate Mother’s Day, any photo of Louis released will inevitably be subject to scrutiny.

Although Kate usually takes the released photos of her children herself, she could break this tradition tomorrow to avoid further scandal.

This comes after the princess admitted to editing the controversial Mother’s Day photo after it was withdrawn by major photo agencies.

She wrote at the time: “Like many amateur photographers, I occasionally experiment with editing.

“I wanted to apologize for any confusion the family photo we shared yesterday caused.”

Following the scandal caused by the photo, Royal observers began to speculate about Kate’s whereabouts, as she had not been reliably photographed since December.

While the palace announced she would undergo abdominal surgery in January and take a break from her duties until after Easter, she revealed last month that she had been diagnosed with cancer.

This came via a moving video in which the princess expressed her hope for a full recovery and asked the public for privacy as she takes more time off to undergo “preventive” chemotherapy.
