The Macau Grand Prix and the National Games will jointly boost tourism in 2025

Tourists traveling to Macau for the Grand Prix next year will be greeted by a number of the 2025 National Games, with the two mega-events set to coincide in November next year.

According to Pun Weng Kun, the president of the Macau Sports Bureau, who told the media on the sidelines of the ITTF Men’s and Women’s World Cup Macao 2024 on Sunday that “the day was for car racing, while the night was for the games”.

“Table tennis and volleyball are both attractive events, we believe they will attract a large number of tourists to Macau,” Pun said. “We made several plans, including accommodation and transportation.”

Five of the National Games scheduled to take place between November 9 and 21, 2025 – namely table tennis, basketball, volleyball and karate – will be hosted in Macau for the first time.

A recruitment drive to recruit volunteers for the games began in 2022, with more than 9,000 already recruited and undergoing training.

Pun believes the two sporting events will be combined to achieve “the maximum effect”, which will translate into economic fruit for a city that aims to tap the synergy between sports and tourism.
