Nzema Chiefs praise Ghana Gas

Leaders of the Nzema Manle Traditional Council in the Western Region have commended the Ghana National Gas Company for the massive development projects it has initiated in the Nzema enclave where the gas processing plant is located.

According to the police chiefs, the various initiatives of the gas processing company have really contributed to improving the living standards of residents.

They mentioned some of the initiatives such as the construction of health centers, educational facilities and educational support in various forms.

The company has also offered scholarships to some students in the enclave, constructed sports facilities, roads and mechanized boreholes, among others.

The leaders said all three Nzema districts of the Western Region have benefited from Ghana Gas development projects. This came to light when some officials of the gas processing company met with the heads of the Nzema Manle Council to explain to them, among other things, the company’s activities.

In an interview with journalists, Awulae Agyefi Kwame, paramount chief of Nsein Traditional Area, said although Ghana cannot meet all their development needs, the leaders appreciate what the gas company has done for the different communities and the people.

The chief indicated that in addition to the various projects, the company has also given some tertiary graduates from the Nzema region the opportunity to serve their service in the company.

“As I speak, my Queen Mother is fulfilling her national service at Ghana Gas and I believe the company will continue to do more to support the communities,” he added.

The Senior Manager of Community Relations and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) at Ghana Gas, Stephen Donkor, explained that the meeting with the Chiefs was initiated by the company’s Community Relations and CSR Department.

He said the purpose was to explain the company’s operations to the various Paramount Chiefs, listen to their demands and discuss how those demands could be met.

He said the company’s CSR is based on five thematic areas including education, healthcare, sports, skill building and then water and sanitation.

He said the various projects the company was undertaking in the various traditional areas of Nzema were aimed at uplifting and enhancing the well-being of the people.

He mentioned some of the company’s recent projects such as the renovation of the doctor’s bungalow in Jomoro District, the construction of a modern 20-seat toilet block, an Early Childhood Development Center and a teacher’s residence in Atuabo.

He also mentioned a 20-bed health center at Ainyinase in Ellembelle District to help improve health care in the area.
