Four celebrities receive a fake honorary doctorate

The recent honorary doctorate awarded to Dr. Sello Maake kaNcube has attracted much attention from many honorary members of Trinity International Bible University, after the office of the Minister of Higher Education and Training, Dr. Blade Nzimande, indicated that the university was not had been registered.

This was shared by department spokesperson Veli Mbele who spoke SowetanLIVE noting:

“As per our records as the department of higher education and training, Trinity International Bible University is not a registered private higher education institution. Trinity International Bible University is therefore not authorized to offer qualifications, including honorary degrees. We would also like to say that we as a department have previously written to Trinity International University and warned them against continuing their illegal activities and regularizing their activities.”

The university has awarded honorary degrees to many other celebrities who may have obtained unregistered doctorates. Below are four of those mzansi celebrities:

  1. Sello Maake kaNcube

The former Generations actor may have celebrated it too early, as his PhD may be fake.

2. Elizabeth Serunye

The Skeem Sam actor also recently received her PhD from the same unregistered institution, and took the time to share her achievement with her social media followers in a post captioned:

“Graduation day. Honor me as Dr. Sikasu Serunye.”

3. Winnie Mashaba

The multi-award winning singer was one of the first recipients of the dubious university’s honorary doctorate and received hers in 2019, an honor she humbly welcomed. Expressing her gratitude, the Rea Mo Leboga hitmaker shared the news on her social media platforms and captioned her post:

“I honestly never imagined that being disciplined and humble in the face of talent would one day earn me an honorary doctorate and also allow me to dine with kings and highly respected leaders.
Also, take me and my children in music to the places we have always dreamed of serving. I bow before the Lord. Ruri kea reta go Balegodimo. ”

4. Shawn Mkhize

Businesswoman and soccer team boss Shawn received his doctorate from Good Shepherd College of Religion, Culture and Training in 2021. This sparked much debate on social media platforms, with many netizens claiming that the honorary degree was not recognized because the college is. not registered. This didn’t stop the grandmother of four from flaunting her status and adding her Dr title to her name.

In an Instagram post, Shawn shared a photo with her sister, who has an academic doctorate, on her graduation day. She then wrote a note to her deceased parents that read:

“Dear Mum and Dad. Here we are… your daughters are both doctors. I hope you and Dad are watching over this moment and are beyond proud. Thank you Lord for this day and thanks to oKhabazela ka Mavovo kayihlandla. Moments like these are something I cherish from the bottom of my heart and are celebrated and recognized while I am still alive.”
