Kazakhstan bans vaping to protect the country’s health

ASTANA – Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has signed a law banning the sale and distribution of vapes, the Akorda press service reported on April 19.

“The law bans the sale and distribution of non-smoking tobacco products, vapes, flavorings and liquids for them, as well as their advertising,” the Akorda said.

Penalties for sales and distribution range from fines to arrest. The law will come into effect 60 days after publication.

Astana Akimat (administration) and Kazakh athletes launched a campaign to encourage residents to exchange electronic cigarettes for sports equipment.

“With this campaign we want to teach young people how important it is to exercise and maintain good health. Together we want to guide them on the right path. We hope that our campaign will motivate many people,” said Kyokushinkan karate athlete Alikhan Asubayev.

Electronic devices collected during the campaign are taken to a specialized factory.
