Christie’s is to sell Vivienne Westwood’s personal wardrobe

Even though Vivienne Westwood passed away at the end of 2022, the revolutionary designer’s legacy and creativity will resonate throughout history. Christie’s takes a look into her life and prepares to sell the designer’s personal wardrobe.

For the auction, Vivienne Westwood’s husband and her label’s creative director, Andreas Kronthaler, have curated special looks from her wardrobe that will appear in two auctions. The two auctions include more than 200 lots spanning four decades of Westwood’s culture-changing work. Please note: the earliest look in the auctions is from the designer’s FW1983/84 collection. In addition, the auctions will benefit a range of charities, including the Vivienne Foundation, Amnesty International and Doctors Without Borders.

“Vivienne Westwood’s sense of activism, art and style is embedded in every piece she creates. The pre-sale exhibition and auctions at Christie’s will celebrate her extraordinary vision with a selection of looks that mark key moments not only in her career, but also in her personal life,” said Christie’s Head of Sale and Director of Private & Iconic Collections, Adriaan Hume Sayer . “This will be a unique opportunity for the public to encounter both the public and private world of the great Dame Vivienne Westwood and raise money for the causes she so fervently believed in.”

The live auction will take place in London on June 25, while the online auction will run from June 14 to June 28. In addition, Christie’s will hold a free public exhibition for the collection at Christie’s London headquarters from June 14 to 24.
