New Indian restaurant with ‘private booths’ and ‘Bombay bottomless brunch’ opened in the city center

A new Indian restaurant serving ‘Bombay bottomless brunch’, afternoon tea and a range of ‘contemporary fusion’ dishes will open in the Mailbox next month. Dil Se – which translates to ‘from the heart’ – will serve food from the north and south of India with a focus on dishes from the coastal region of Kerala, where fish and vegetarian dishes are popular.

Diners can expect dishes such as dosa, pav bhaji thali and Indo-Chinese options from chef Sanjay Das, as well as desserts such as ras malai, rava kessari and gajar halwa cheesecake. Cocktails and mocktails are served from a gold marble bar.

The restaurant will open at the end of May and replace Armani, which was on the first floor of the Mailbox.

Entrepreneur Tito Jerard, of Sri Lankan descent, has collaborated with investors Twinkle Mehan and Vino Joseph to renovate the space, which includes a formal dining area as well as a ‘cozy’ area for Bombay Brunch and private booths.

Tito said: “There is a distinct taste and experience between North and South Indian cuisine. Being from Sri Lanka, cooking and eating are simple pleasures and bring people together in so many ways. The fresh ingredients, flavors and cooking style in Sri Lanka are very similar to that of South India, so we wanted Dil Se to provide a comprehensive experience of India.

“I have a love for food and work in the hospitality industry. My ambition is to present high quality Indian food. South Indian cuisine is mainly plant-based, including vegetables, legumes and whole grains, making it a healthier option. We use coconut in many dishes and gluten-free flours and offer a wide range of vegan and gluten-free dishes.”
