If you’re shopping for someone who loves the look and the earth, you should pay attention to brands’ sustainability efforts, as fashion is responsible for 10 percent of global carbon emissions.

From production, packaging and distribution, we have selected brands that put sustainability first at every step of the production process.

Sustainability is the core of Tentree the brand not only plants 10 trees per product sold (more than 100 million trees to date), but also prioritizes its pillars of transparency, climate, products, nature and people.

Wool Runner Mizzles ($165)

The Wool Runner Mizzles have a rubber non-slip handle, are water-repellent, breathable and machine washable.

Allbirds has a detailed overview of it sustainability goals on its website. Some highlights from their 2025 sustainability goals include using less fuel and electricity (and cleaner sources), using natural materials instead of petroleum-based materials, and creating new alternatives that don’t exist.

This T-shirt is made of eco-viscose a natural fiber from wood pulp. It is lightweight and fits perfectly with the Gezira knitted skirt.

Cypress down jacket for women ($895)

The Cypress Down Jacket is wind-resistant, water-repellent, ultra-light, down-proof (so feathers don’t penetrate the fabric), foldable and the nylon is 100 percent recycled.

Canada Goose aims to transition 90 percent of their materials to preferred fibers and materials (Textile exchange describes a preferred fiber or material as “environmentally and/or socially progressive and has been selected because it has more sustainable properties compared to other options.”) by 2025.

The Cypress down jacket with hood ($995) and Cypress down vest ($650) are also made from 100 percent recycled nylon. All Canada Goose down-filled products are made in Canada.

The Relaxed Organic Cotton Cardigan ($180)

The Organic Cotton Relaxed Cardigan has a relaxed fit and is made from 100 percent organic cotton.

Everlane is committed to “eliminating all virgin plastic from our supply chain and moving all of our cotton production to organic.” You can learn more about Everlane’s sustainability efforts at the brand’s websitebut some highlights include reducing greenhouse gas emissions per product by 55 percent by 2030.

DUER denim is soft and has a nice stretch, so it does not feel stiff but retains its shape. They are made of 40 percent conventional cotton, 30 percent organic cotton,
28 percent Coolmax EcoMade polyester and 2 percent lycra EcoMade spandex.

DUER uses a closed production process for Tencel, which means that the water used in the production process is recycled and fewer chemicals are needed. DUER is currently taking other environmental initiatives and has plans to expand its efforts, all of which are initiatives published on its website.

Go-To Flatform Sandal ($138)

The Go-To Flatform Sandal has shock-absorbing memory foam insoles. The leather straps are soft on the inside and waterproof on top. The shoe has a net zero carbon impact.

Nisolo is working to reduce its carbon footprint and do what is necessary to offset its impact. Check them out website to learn how they work with a carbon neutral footprint.
