NOPD announces preliminary crime statistics for April 14-20, 2024

The following is a weekly report of citywide crime statistics compiled by the NOPD Analytics Unit for the period April 14-20, 2024.

Please note that these statistical figures are preliminary and subject to further analysis and revision.

Notable arrests have been made

During the said week, the NOPD made the following notable arrests:

  • On April 15, the NOPD’s Violent Offender Warrant Squad arrested Tirrell Gilmore Jr. (black male, DOB: 04-20-1996) in the investigation of a homicide that occurred on April 7, 2024 in the 100 block of North Carrollton Avenue. Gilmore was located and arrested in Jefferson Parish and later transported to Orleans Parish for booking for first-degree murder.
  • On April 11, NOPD arrested Michael Bates-Browder (black male, DOB: 5/12/2000) in the investigation of a shooting that occurred on February 14, 2024 in the 100 block of Royal Street. Bates-Browder was located and arrested earlier this month in Clayton County, Georgia. He was transported back to Louisiana on April 11, arrested by NOPD and booked into the Orleans Parish Justice Center accordingly.
  • On April 17, NOPD arrested Ted Lee Jordan Jr. (black male, DOB: 02-01-1976) in the investigation of a June 2023 homicide in the 8000 block of Old Gentilly Road. Jordan was booked into the Orleans Parish Justice Center on a charge of second-degree murder.
  • On April 18, NOPD arrested Ronell Reeder (black male, DOB: 5/20/2002) in the investigation of a murder that occurred earlier that day in the 4000 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. Reeder was booked into the Orleans Parish Justice Center on two counts of murder.
  • During the week of April 15-19, the NOPD Special Operations Division’s Violent Offender Warrant Squad – with the assistance of the US Marshal Service, New Orleans EMS and NOPD district patrol officers – conducted a fugitive roundup throughout the city. This operation resulted in the arrest or detention of 15 suspects in connection with 32 incidents. The roundup focused on investigations resulting from fugitives in shooting incidents and armed robberies involving a firearm.

Weapon arrests (arrests made under LA RS 14:95 and subitems)

To date, NOPD has made 216 arrests for illegal possession of a firearm. This is a decrease of 30 percent compared to 308 arrests in the same period in 2023.
