Ministry of Religious Affairs improves Hajj facilities with innovative measures: spokesperson

The Ministry of Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony has introduced a series of innovative measures that will ensure the utmost comfort and convenience for pilgrims undertaking the holy journey of Hajj this year

ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 22nd Apr, 2024) The Ministry of Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony has introduced a series of innovative measures that ensure utmost comfort and convenience for pilgrims undertaking the holy journey of Hajj this year.

According to ministry spokesperson Muhammad Umar Butt, these initiatives are aimed at streamlining the pilgrim experience and providing comprehensive support to pilgrims during their journey.

He said one of the crucial advances is the implementation of an advanced multimedia training program for Hajj pilgrims, which is currently in its final stages. He said this nationwide program would provide pilgrims with essential knowledge and guidance for a successful pilgrimage.

Umar Butt said that all official Hajj pilgrims would receive essential kits consisting of two bags, a scarf, an Ahram belt, a shoe bag and a SIM card before their departure to Saudi Arabia. Moreover, arrangements had been made for transportation, with pilgrims being informed about the availability of training facilities, he said.

He said accommodation had been arranged for all pilgrims near the Prophet’s Mosque in Madinah, ensuring proximity to one of the holiest sites in Islam.

In the quest to provide the best services during Hajj, Umar Butt mentioned for the first time this year the introduction of a testing service to select the best Moavineen-e-Hujjaj.

Transparent selection procedures were adopted, with examinations being conducted for both Moavineen-e-Hujjaj and the medical mission, he added.

He further informed that over 47,000 candidates appeared in the written examination for 550 seats of Moavineen-e-Hujjaj, while 9,000 doctors and paramedical staff underwent the examination process for 400 seats of Hajj Medical Mission.

Umar further said that merit-based appointments were made taking into account regional quotas and categories in accordance with Hajj policy. Separate merit criteria were also set for civilian and uniformed officers, as well as for new and experienced staff assistants, he stated.

He said the selection process assessed the candidates’ psychological aptitude, basic intelligence, Hajj/IT knowledge and physical fitness, ensuring that only the most qualified individuals were chosen for this crucial role.

Despite initial challenges, including petitions filed in the higher courts against the ministry’s initiatives, he said, adding that the rejection of these petitions underscored the importance and legitimacy of the ministry’s efforts to improve the pilgrim experience for all.
