19-year-old man killed in Sunday shooting, other injured

One person was killed and one person was injured following a shooting on Sunday morning, according to police in Stockton.

Around 9:33 a.m. Sunday, officers responded to the 600 block of El Camino Avenue for a report of a person shot, according to a news release from the Stockton Police Department.

A 19-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics. A 70-year-old man was shot and taken to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

“It is believed that both victims were family members,” police spokesman David Scott wrote. “We cannot confirm the exact relationship at this time.”

The man’s identity has not been released, pending notification of the family by the San Joaquin County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Police identified Miguelito Asuncion, 36, of Stockton, as the suspected killer. He was arrested and booked into jail on suspicion of murder, Scott said.

“Preliminary information is that there was an unknown disturbance involving all three individuals,” Scott wrote. “Detectives will investigate what exactly happened just before the shooting and what led to this murder.”

Asuncion is now facing two crimes: murder and assault with a firearm on person. He will appear in court on Tuesday, April 23 at 1:30 p.m

About 8:18 a.m. Thursday, the Stockton Fire Department responded to the 100 block of South Center Street for a report of a person suffering what appeared to be a “medical emergency,” police wrote in a statement.

When emergency services arrived on scene, they found a 66-year-old man. The man was rushed to hospital, where he later died, according to police.

On Friday, Christopher Bailey, 50, was arrested in connection with the investigation. He was booked into the San Joaquin County Jail on suspicion of robbery and murder, police said.

He is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday.

According to Scott, 17 homicides have been reported in Stockton this year. This time last year there were 21 murders.
