In the heart of the Bufalotta district of northern Rome, a memorable day provided an ideal bridge between education, culture and spirituality.

On March 12, 2024, six sixth-grade classes at Masina Middle School in Rome, consisting of 11- and 12-year-old students, were accompanied by their teachers to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to participate in the ‘Open Doors’ event. ” organized by the Rione di Roma 2 and by Professor Luca del Bianco, religion teacher of the above-mentioned school.

The event, the second of its kind, involved more than 130 people, including students and teachers. Bishop Fiorillo’s welcome in the spacious chapel was warm. After receiving them warmly, he introduced the organization in general and illustrated the day’s program.

Visitors, enthusiastic about this initiative, were led by missionaries from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints along seven different routes through the area. They could see not only the extensive gardens with more than 100 different plants from all over the world, but also the structure and fine materials used to build the Temple of Rome, a reproduction of Christ and the Apostles by the neoclassical sculptor Bertel Thorvaldsen, the scale model of the Temple of Rome with all its details and the large glass mosaic that tells the most important stories from the New Testament.

A particularly moving moment was watching videos about Easter, which highlighted the importance of Christ’s resurrection.

The tour program also included a hands-on family history activity at the FamilySearch Center. This activity consisted of searching for some of the participants’ similarities with historical figures using the available computers.

The Relief Society of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints also hosted an extended snack where the children had the opportunity to share with their classmates and family the photos and videos that captured the unique moments of this cross-cultural experience.

The “Open Doors” event was a valuable opportunity to answer the curiosities and questions many ask about The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, providing an up-close perspective on the religious complex and its faithful.

Students, teachers and visitors had the opportunity to explore an important place of faith and reflect on the universal values ​​that unite diverse communities. The day marked a step forward in dialogue between cultures and religions, underscoring the importance of encounter and mutual knowledge as bridges to a more inclusive and understanding society.

Through this initiative, Masina High School and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints demonstrated how culture and faith can work together to enrich the lives of young people and light their paths with mutual knowledge and understanding.
