Maxwell Frost calls Trump a ‘threat to our planet’ on Earth Day

On Earth Day, progressive Democrat Maxwell Frost (Fla.) calls former President Trump a “threat to the planet.”

In a statement first shared with The Hill, Frost, who serves on the Biden campaign’s National Advisory Council, cited the former president’s previous comments calling climate change a hoax.

“Donald Trump does not believe in the threat of climate change, which makes Donald a threat to our planet and every future generation,” Frost said.

“He will sell out the American people to oil barons who want to pollute our air and set our country back — in exchange for campaign donations,” he added.

According to The Washington Post, Trump recently held a fundraising dinner with oil executives and criticized wind energy.

Biden and his allies have sought to highlight the stark differences between the two candidates on climate change, as Trump largely favors expanding planet-warming fossil fuels and limiting climate and environmental regulations, while Biden favors renewable energy sources and supports other climate-friendly energy sources. policy.

It’s also an area of relative agreement between the party’s mainstream and progressive wings, with Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) appearing alongside Biden on Monday for the Day of Earth, as the party experiences internal tensions in other areas, such as the war in Gaza. Although it has not been entirely without friction, as progressives have criticized some of Biden’s actions, including the 2023 approval of the Willow Project, which would allow oil drilling in Alaska for about three decades.

Frost praised Biden in his statement for “enacting, achieving and leading the most ambitious climate, clean energy and environmental justice agenda in history.”
