Ranchi: CPI-ML has filed a complaint with the Election Commission of India (ECI) against Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s speech at Banswara in Rajasthan on Sunday, alleging that it was an “attempt to promote enmity or hatred on the grounds of religion The letter from CPI-ML Politburo member Sanjay Sharma referred to the Prime Minister’s alleged speech in which he said that if the Congress comes to power at the Center, it will lose the property, land and would distribute people’s gold among the Muslims. He claimed the Prime Minister’s speech was a violation of Section 123 (3A) of the Representation of the People Act, adding that action should be taken against him as his speech is aimed at “disturbing the atmosphere of the polls and spread hatred against the Muslim community’. Speaking about the issue in Ranchi on Monday, CPI-ML general secretary Deepankar Bhattacharya said a letter has been sent to the ECI calling for action in this regard. He said, “The ECI has stated that it will take action even if major leaders do not follow the Model Code of Conduct (MCC). The Prime Minister is leading a hate campaign during the elections, which is a violation of the MCC.”
