When people get some money in their pockets, people come out of the woodwork to try to make their claims…

And this story is no different!

It was written by a 17-year-old Reddit user who is being harassed by family members to share his inheritance.

Take a look at what he had to say and see if you think he’s right or wrong.

“So I (17 million) only found out a few weeks ago that my father left me a lot of money in a trust. Like it’s such a crazy amount that I didn’t really believe it at first. But it’s true.

The reason is that my father had already inherited from both his parents. He also inherited from the only two uncles he had, and one of them was very successful and owned a business.

This was all explained in a letter my father wrote to me. He had set up the trust before he got most of the money, but when he found out his cancer was incurable, he decided to set it all aside for me once all his medical bills were paid.

My parents were separated, but not legally separated, when my father became ill and subsequently died. But they haven’t lived together or as a couple for years.

This was 10 years ago.

Mother got wind of what was going on…

My mother discovered the money because she read the letter he sent me about the matter. She then insisted that she would come with me to a meeting with the lawyer to discuss this.

When my mother heard about the money, she told her husband and suddenly the money became a very sensitive subject. I can’t touch it until I’m 19, given the way my dad set it up.

So I have some time to deal with this, but my mother and her husband want me to split the money with my step-siblings (14, 8 and 7). The money is enough, even if I paid for college and bought a house, I would have money left over.

Due to the way the trust works, I was told that it also earns interest. Which my father had deliberately set up.

His mother’s situation isn’t great…

My mother and her husband have been struggling financially for years. They started dating when his youngest child was 1.

His wife had died, he was fighting a legal battle with his eldest’s mother and his eldest is in therapy for trauma caused by their mother.

His youngest was also born with some medical problems and has many doctor appointments. Between everything, money was tight. We live paycheck to paycheck and I work to make my own life a little more comfortable. But we didn’t have any tuition fees or anything like that for that. My mother and her husband emptied their own bank account to keep a roof over our heads.

This has all been brought up to me as a good reason why I should do this. My mother told me that it was selfish of father to put it all aside just for my future and that he should have also thought about raising me.

His mother really let him have it.

She told me that I might not call her husband my father or his children my brothers and sisters, but that we are a family and that this family has been through so much together and that we have fought for so long, that it is so good and generous for I would be to do this. I told her it’s not like I can access the money now.

She said no, but if I do, I should open accounts for my three step-siblings so they have a better chance at college and, if they don’t, a chance to get help in their lives.

He had to put his foot down.

Despite all their attempts to get me to do it, I said no. I told them I wouldn’t share the money. My mother was SO angry.

But it was nothing compared to how angry her husband was. They told me to stop being selfish and start acting with compassion.
