InterGlobe Enterprises will launch electric air taxis across India

InterGlobe Enterprises, the parent company of IndiGo Airlines, has announced plans to launch an electric air taxi across India by 2026. The project will be implemented in collaboration with Archer Aviation, based in the US.

It has been specified that Archer Aviation will supply 200 electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft, known as Midnight, designed like conventional helicopters but with lower noise levels and improved safety features. Each Air Taxi cabin can accommodate up to five people, including the pilot and four passengers.

Equipped with six battery packs, the Midnight aircraft can be quickly charged in just half an hour. The ratio between charging time and flight time is 1:1 (in minutes).

This innovative transport will reduce the travel time between Delhi’s Connaught Place and Gurugram to seven minutes, compared to the usual 1.5 hours of driving. The service will later be extended to Mumbai and Bangalore. Negotiations are currently underway with city municipalities to establish the necessary infrastructure.

The cost of a trip for one passenger is expected to range from Rs 2,000 to Rs 3,000.
