Celebrity special Traitors UK is officially in the works, inviting a group of people who literally lie for a living to cheat their way to victory in a star-studded spin-off of BBC One’s hit viral series.

Despite only having two appearances, The Traitors has quickly become one of the most talked about shows on television. The premise, presented by Claudia Winkleman, is deceptively simple: 22 strangers meet in a Scottish country house, with a select few selected as the titular Traitors. These secret enemies must live among their remaining Faithful housemates and do their best to avoid detection as they kill players through nightly eliminations.

It is up to the Faithful to hunt down and stop the Traitors before their numbers dwindle. If they achieve this goal, a growing prize pool is up for grabs. If they lose, the prize money goes to the Traitors.

Special celebrity release date from The Traitors UK

The Traitors UK Celebrity special doesn’t have a release date, but we know it will be released sometime in 2025 and will come after the show’s third series.

Since the filming for the celeb edition is expected to take place next year, we can probably expect it on TV at the end of 2025.

Claudia Winkleman returns as host of The Traitors UK Celebrity special.

Winkleman joined the UK version of the show during its debut in 2022 and continued as host through the hugely popular second series in 2023.

By guiding players through their various tasks and nightly elimination roundtables, Winkleman manages to find the right balance of light and dark for a show full of sinister twists.

Meanwhile, The Traitors US is presented by actor Alan Cumming.

Who will star in The Traitors UK celebrity special?

The cast for celebrity special The Traitors UK has not yet been revealed, but according to reports the studio behind the show is aiming high when it comes to the famous faces they hope to lure to the Traitors’ mansion.

The US version of The Traitors took a slightly different approach to the UK edition, with the former featuring a mix of famous and ‘civilian’ players including former Love Island winner Ekin-Su Cülcüloğlu, while the latter stuck to non-famous Attendees.

Many different names have been mentioned for The Traitors’ celebrity special, including Friends star Courtney Cox. However, the production company, Studio Lambert, has not revealed anything concrete yet.

Elsewhere, a number of stars gathered for a special Comic Relief parody of The Traitors in early 2024, starring David Walliams, Catherine Tate and a handful of former Traitor contestants alongside Dawn French and Jennifer Saunders.

Recruitment for the show’s third civilian series is currently underway, with more than 300,000 applications submitted and filming will begin later this year.
