Dubrovnik mourns the loss of tourism icon Nikša Bender: Mayor expresses his condolences to the family

On the occasion of the death of the leading tourism professional and author of books on tourism in Dubrovnik, Niksa BenderDubrovnik Mayor Mato Franković expressed his condolences to the family:

Dearest family,

With the death of Mr. Nikša Bender, the city has lost one of the most knowledgeable experts on the history of tourism in Dubrovnik, one of those who contributed to its creation and progress through their dedicated work.

He was associated with tourism almost all his life. He wrote about it during his retirement years and previously worked at the Dubrovnik Tourist Board and tourist offices. He initiated numerous tourist events, led the publication of the magazine “Welcome to Dubrovnik”, as well as the production of the first promotional tourist film about Dubrovnik. All this was another expression of his love for this city.

With his two publications under that title, he has left an indelible impression, preserving the memory of those who contributed to the development and success of tourism in Dubrovnik and Croatia. One of them was undoubtedly Mr. Nikša.

He has left us such a legacy, and his exceptional contribution to the history and affirmation of tourism in Dubrovnik and Croatia is confirmed by the many awards he has deservedly received, promoting the Dubrovnik name worldwide.

On behalf of myself personally and on behalf of the City of Dubrovnik, I extend my sincere condolences to the entire family.
