Family injured in car crash on Santa Fe Avenue in San Marcos

SAN MARCOS, CA (April 23, 2024) — A family of three was injured in a wrong-way crash on Santa Fe Avenue near Las Flores Drive.

According to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department, the wrong-way crash happened Sunday around 8 p.m. For an unknown reason, a blue Honda SUV driver was traveling the wrong way in the eastbound lanes of Santa Fe Avenue. The Honda then crashed into a red Honda SUV and a white Toyota car.

Shortly thereafter, paramedics responded and took a 24-year-old father and 22-year-old mother – both red Honda occupants – to Palomar Medical Center with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. Paramedics transported their child to Rady Children’s Hospital as a precaution. As for the 46-year-old Toyota driver, paramedics assessed the individual at the scene and transported the 29-year-old wrong-way driver to Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla with major, non-life-threatening injuries.

Authorities are currently investigating alcohol as a possible explanation. If anyone saw this crash, please call the CHP.
