A giant alligator squirmed off the Air Force runway

Go to ‘Snakes on a plane’. Members of MacDill Airforce Base in Tampa, Florida found a scaly surprise under one of their jets on Monday, April 22: a 10-foot-long alligator nestled between the wheels.

As mating season begins in Florida, we often see male animals wandering from their habitat in search of love. It seems this unfortunate alligator was hoping for an encounter with reptiles.

Officials from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission were called in to deal with the giant creature.

Video posted to Facebook shows wildlife officers using a rope to drag the alligator off the runway after throwing a beach towel over its powerful jaws. According to the base, the animal was later released into the Hillsborough River.

It’s not the first time MacDill airmen have encountered an alligator: In 2018, a huge 40-footer named Elvis was spotted plodding along the base’s golf course.
