Women’s tennis rocks St. Lawrence in comeback fashion

TROY, NY – Trailing 2-1 after the doubles, the Engineers used a strong performance in the singles, highlighted by a tiebreak in the third set of Brooke Bauer to defeat the St. Lawrence University Saints 5-4 on Saturday afternoon. With the win, RPI has now won six straight games and is 7-1 in the Liberty League.

It was the combination of Bauer and Prisha Rapur which captured the only double point with which the Engineers could start the day. RPI fell 3-1 after dropping its first singles match before a 6-1, 6-1 victory of Masha Karach brought the Engineers back within a point.

Rapur followed up Karach’s win with a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 2 singles earlier Lina Krumpel achieved a hard-fought three-set victory by a 4-6, 6-4, 10-8 final. Leading 4-3, the Engineers also saw Bauer come through with a 6-3, 2-6, 10-8 victory at No. 5 singles to decide the match.

RPI returns to action this Sunday, April 28, for their regular season finale at home against Vassar.
