Gondia Police: Gondia police face a hurdle in surveillance due to poor mobile phone connection near a crime spot | Nagpur News

Nagpur: As villagers threaten violent agitation, police are trying to identify the absconding suspect who raped and murdered a 12-year-old tribal girl in Deori Taluka of Gondia. Some villagers had seen the girl riding a bicycle as a duo. Police believe the victim knew the suspect. “It is unlikely that the girl will accompany an unknown person. It’s probably someone he knows, but the villagers are keeping tight-lipped,” the officer said. Her family and neighbors started a search after she did not return home at night, but did not immediately go to the police. On April 19, villagers discovered the body while collecting. mahua flowers at Dhawalkhedi forest. Initially they could not identify the girl, but soon relatives were informed and arrived at the scene. Chhinchgarh police were also alerted about the body, which was later shifted to Gondia for autopsy. Police cited a surveillance hurdle as there are minimal mobile phone connections in the area. SP Gondia Nikhil Pingale, who is camping at Chhindgarh railway station, stated that villagers are being questioned to establish the identity of the persons she was last seen with. “We have activated manual intelligence and taken ground action to resolve the matter,” Pingale said. Chetan Uikey, president of All-India Adivasi Karmachari Sanghatana, Deori, said he along with supporters of the Birsa Brigade had submitted a memorandum to police officials. “We have demanded speedy justice and death penalty for the guilty. If it is not cracked at the earliest, we would organize bigger protests,” Uikey said.
