Rain and clouds follow lightning on Sunday morning in DC

Early morning lightning indicated that Sunday would be another wet day in the DC area, another in a series of days with lots of clouds and frequent raindrops.

Lightning flashed outside windows in the dark and quiet minutes after midnight on Sunday morning, likely surprising residents who had planned to occupy themselves indoors. It was also an assertive prelude to the 0.40 inches of rain measured in Washington on Sunday at 5 p.m.
