Violent Central Florida crime suspect who attacked jogger arrested

A Central Florida violent crime suspect who attacked a jogger has been arrested for armed robbery and strangulation.

The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office arrested 31-year-old Matthew Green Jr. after an armed robbery and injuries to a jogger.

On April 16, at 1:48 a.m., a man entered a 7-Eleven at 13411 Fishhawk Blvd. The man approached the counter and demanded money from the register, claiming to have a weapon. Despite the demand, the employee did not comply and the suspect fled.

Shortly afterwards, another call reported that a suspect had attacked a jogger, rendering the victim unconscious from strangulation, and then stole the victim’s phone before fleeing the scene.

Through investigation, detectives identified a possible location for the suspect on Juliano Drive in Riverview, near Tampa. Upon arrival, officers observed a home with an open window and screen that had been tampered with.

Officers contacted the residents, who agreed to a search.

During the search, officers found the suspect hiding behind a washing machine and dryer. He was arrested and taken into custody without incident.

In both cases, 31-year-old Matthew Green Jr. identified as a suspect. He was arrested and charged with:

  • Robbery with a Firearm (under $750)
  • Robbery $750 or more but less than $20,000
