The gritty new ITV thriller will be your next binge watch

If you need a gritty new thriller to obsess over, ITV has the solution for you.

Chilling conspiracy theories collide with international crime in a new six-part series Red eyewhich is also called a ‘collision of three worlds’ and stars Jing Lusi and Fool me once stars Richard Armitage alongside Lesley Sharp and Jemma Moore.

Award-winning producer Julie Gardner (I hate Suzie, Doctor Who) will co-star the series with Lachlan MacKinnon (Industry, a discovery of witches). Fortitude And Power Book IV: Power director Kieron Hawkes directs all episodes of the series, which is produced by Kristian Dench (The conquest, battle back).

Red eye follows the journeys of three women – DC Hana Li (Lusi), journalist Jess Li (Moore) and MI5’s Madeline Delaney (Sharp) – who all find themselves caught up in the same life-threatening conspiracy.

It all starts when British doctor Matthew Nolan (Armitage) flies home from a medical conference in Beijing – where he came terrifyingly close to death in a car crash – and is immediately arrested at London’s Heathrow Airport.

He is charged with murder after officials discover a dead woman in the mangled vehicle from which he was about to escape, despite the doctor insisting he was driving alone.

Nolan is taken back to China to be charged by lead agent Hana Li, but when a death occurs on board their flight, even she begins to suspect something fishy is going on and starts her own investigation.

The synopsis explains: “Further deaths confirm that Nolan is truly in danger, and after a call from MI5, Hana becomes embroiled in an escalating conspiracy.

Meanwhile, the head of MI5, Madeline Delaney (Sharp), breaks protocol and risks her entire career to not only help Hana and Nolan stay alive, but also to expose an international conspiracy that involves both China and seems to involve the people in their own government. murders on Flight 357.”

Back in London, Hana’s half-sister and journalist Jess tries to cash in on her assignment and starts her own investigation into Nolan’s extradition before finding herself on the run from an unknown assassin.

Red eye takes viewers on a nighttime flight from London to Beijing, through the mean streets of London and the corridors of power in Whitehall.

Armitage told the Radio Times Red eye was similar to the series inspired by Agatha Christie’s novel, And then there were none, but ‘on a plane’ rather than on an isolated island.

“It’s just kind of a throwback to the kind of political espionage that I love, that we did with GhostsArmitage said. “There are elements of that in there.”

The actor said that at times he didn’t even know if his character was ‘telling the truth’ Red eyein which he said that he went from being ‘absolutely convinced of his innocence to now really doubting who he is’.

I guess we’ll have to make up our own minds when it finally appears on ITVX – which you can stream for free on ITVX from April 21.
