Man arrested for kidnapping and murdering little nephew for ₹3L ransom in Odisha

Balangir: Titilagarh police have announced a breakthrough in the case of a 15-year-old boy who went missing from Belpada village in Odisha’s Balangir district. Police have arrested the boy’s uncle, identified as Rohan Bag, on charges of kidnapping and murder.

According to police reports, the boy, named Rehan, was allegedly kidnapped and then murdered by his uncle, Rohan Bag, who confessed to strangling him. To mislead the authorities, the suspect reportedly called the family and demanded a ransom of Rs 2.3 lakh.

The incident took place on April 14, when Rehan was reported missing from his house. An investigation was started following a complaint from the parents.

After the uncle’s arrest, police conducted a scene recreation during which they discovered the minor’s decomposed body. The body was sent for post-mortem examination.

Subsequently, Rohan Bag was produced before the court and remanded after his bail application was rejected. A case (166/24) was registered under Sections 302 and 366 of the IPC.

During interrogation, Rohan confessed to his crime and stated that he had killed his cousin after failing to extort Rs 3 lakh from the boy’s father. He buried the body near a creek close to the village before fleeing.

The police breakthrough came after the victim’s father handed over a threatening letter demanding ransom, prompting them to further investigate Rohan’s involvement. Rohan was eventually arrested and admitted to the kidnapping and murder during interrogation.
