Women’s conference in Indonesia ensures that women’s rights are included in national development planning

TEMPO.CO, JakartaThe 2nd National Conference on Women integrated nine key agendas of women, people with disabilities and marginalized groups to ensure their inclusion in national medium- and long-term development planning documents.

“We are turning the momentum of Kartini Day into a milestone in Kartini’s dream to empower women to determine their own destiny,” Minister of Women Empowerment and Child Protection (PPPA) Bintang Puspayoga said in Badung, Bali on Saturday.

RA Kartini is praised as the Indonesian symbol of women’s emancipation. Her birthday, April 21, is celebrated as Kartini Day.

The 2nd National Women’s Conference, attended by 1,500 participants and 11 INCLUSION partners, took place on April 20 at the Giri Nata Mandala Cultural Hall in Badung District, Bali.

This conference serves as a model for addressing the nine key issues facing women, people with disabilities and marginalized groups.

The nine key issues cover the topics of poverty, women workers, prevention of child marriage, women’s economic empowerment, women’s leadership, women’s health, women and the environment, women and children in conflict with the law, and violence against women and children.

“How women have dreams and make those dreams come true – that is what we hope will be confirmed today. Hopefully, from these nine issues, we will oversee the national development plan,” said Puspayoga.

The second National Women’s Conference was a collective action organized by INKLUSI (Australia-Indonesia Partnership Towards an Inclusive Society), in collaboration with the Ministry of PPPA and with support from the National Development Planning Agency (Bappenas).

The collective action was coordinated by the Women’s Alternative Education Circle Institutions and supported by the INKLUSI Secretariat.

The INCLUSION program is a collaboration between the governments of Indonesia and Australia through the coordination of Bappenas.

The conference agenda began with a dialogue between the Minister and representatives of INKLUSI partner civil society organizations that provide direct assistance to women at the grassroots level.

The activity was held on April 19 at the Giri Nata Mandala Cultural Hall in Badung, Bali.

The book, entitled “Suara Perempuan” (Women’s Voice), was handed over to the Minister. Thereafter, a presentation was made on nine key topics on women, disabilities and marginalized groups for the National Development Plan 2025-2029.

The conference concluded with the submission of proposed development plans for 2025-2029, incorporating the needs of women, people with disabilities and marginalized groups, to Bappenas.
