Dodgers news: Landon Knack, Corey Seager, food from Los Angeles

Dodgers rookie right-hander Landon Knack had 23 friends and family members at Dodger Stadium on Wednesday for his major league debut, one of three major league debuts for the Dodgers this week.

Knack’s father John called the day “surreal” in an interview with Tim Hayes at the Bristol Herald Courier in Virginia.

“After the rollercoaster of the minor leagues and spring training this year, I knew he was ready,” John Knack told Hayes. “So it was nice to be able to relax and enjoy the day.”

Noah Woodward wrote about Knack’s debut in his newsletter The Advance Scout and was impressed with his change and prominence on the mound.

“It’s common for young pitchers to get so caught up in themselves or overwhelmed that they forget about the base runners. Not Knack,” Woodward wrote. “He reached out to Freddie Freeman early and often. He emptied the tank in one at-bat, taking advantage of his two free pickoffs/disengagements.”

Danielle Dorsey, the assistant food editor at the Los Angeles Times, shared a curated list of dining options in and around Dodger Stadium on Friday.

Likewise, our friends at Eater Los Angeles have put together their own list of restaurants in the area.

Longtime friend Corey Seager was profiled by Jeff Passan at ESPN, who said the former Dodgers and current Rangers shortstop has the best swing in the MLB.

Included was this quote about Seager by his former Dodgers teammate Justin Turner, now with the Blue Jays:

“He’s prepared. There are a lot of confident guys, right? But he believes in his work. He believes in everything he does to give him that mental freedom where no situation is too big for him. A big part of this is being able to find freedom in your play – that you’re not thinking about a mechanic or a situation. There are no what-if questions. You can get ready in time and let it rip. When you have that freedom, you can do anything.”
