Fans of a Mississippi restaurant known for its breakfast buffet and Southern cuisine are expressing their sadness on social media after the popular eatery announced it is closing for good.

“It is with heavy hearts that we announce the closure of PawPaw’s Kountry Kitchen,” owners Bill and Lisa Hester announced on Facebook. This past year we have enjoyed providing our community with hearty meals. However, the relentless increase in food and operating costs means we are unable to continue our operations without lowering the quality of the food. We are not going to do this!”

The on-site restaurant at Indian Point RV Resort in Gautier closes for good after the Sunday lunch buffet.

“No!!! We forbid you to close!!! But we understand. You are all the best!! Good food, great service and good people,” wrote one dedicated customer in response to the social media post.

Another loyal customer wrote about the restaurant’s announcement.

“It’s a sad day for Gautier and a number of breakfast-loving families. Thanks for the great food and friendly service. And for your generosity!” wrote the commenter.

Since the announcement on Facebook on Friday, the post has been shared numerous times and seen by many in Mississippi and beyond.

“We would like to express our deepest gratitude to each of you who have walked through our doors, shared meals with loved ones and made memories within our walls,” the Hesters wrote. “Your support has meant everything to us.”

“Even though our journey ends here, the memories we created together will be cherished forever. We hope you will continue to support local businesses in our community.”

The restaurant ends its last day of service today with chicken fried steak, mashed potatoes, gravy, fried okra and biscuits.
