Casa Blanca Golf Course in Laredo is having its best financial month in 20 years

Casa Blanca Golf Course believes it recently had its best month of business in the last 20 years.

General Manager Oscar Urdiales recently spoke with Webb County leaders about the strong performance. He said quarterly revenue from January to March 2024 increased by as much as $208,340 compared to the previous year.

Webb County Judge Tano Tijerina and Commissioner of Pct. 3 John Galo asked if the numbers were from a specific sales area, but Urdiales assured them it was everywhere, including event costs, games, clothing and the restaurant.

Overall, sales have almost doubled compared to the same month last year, as Urdiales expects this strong performance to continue.

“This was one of the best months of the last 20 years, but there was a decline in turf and reliability,” Urdiales said. “Over the past five years – since we took over the company – we have significantly improved those conditions, and that is reflected in the turnover.”

Urdiales also thanked his marketing team for bringing more attention to the golf course, especially the non-golfers who celebrated with gender reveal events.

“We introduce a lot of non-golfers to the Casa Blanca Golf Course, and that’s what drives the revenue success we’ve had,” Urdiales said. “Also the gender reveals we’ve had. We have become the gender reveal capital of Laredo, which is a good thing because it attracts non-golfers and sends a message to the community by bringing families and holding their events there. ”

The additional revenue is a positive for the golf course as it potentially funds more updates and prepares for the challenges of the coming years as the Texas Department of Transportation is expected to acquire some of the land.

“That part of our land is substantial enough to require us to redesign the layout of our golf course – whether it will be a complete redesign or completely change the current layout to suit the landlock we have ,” said Urdiales.

Heckenkemper Golf Design is involved as an architect in the new layout. Urdiales confirmed that it will take at least 24 to 36 months before any changes will be visible.

In terms of improvements, a water pump that has been inactive for ten years was discussed to try to repair it.

“The goal was to update it and get it working so we don’t have to rely on the city’s water,” Urdiales said. “To some extent we will still be dependent on it, but this would replace water loss or replenish the water that we need or do not get from the city, such as in the summer months and the heat months. ”

If the golf course does as well as before, Urdiales hopes to reach $2 million by the end of the year.

Tijerina said he was proud of the work that went into the golf course, which is evident in the revenue it has generated.
