Military intelligence has arrested NGO personnel in Sennar, Sudan

Sudan’s military intelligence is conducting an extensive detention campaign in the White Nile, Sennar and El Gezira. Staff of a French humanitarian NGO were arrested by military intelligence agents on Tuesday in Singa, the capital of Sudan’s Sennar state. Some of them were later released after being beaten while in custody.

Witnesses told Radio Dabanga that military intelligence in Singa, the capital of Sennar state, detained French Agency for Technical Cooperation and Development (ACTED) staff on Tuesday and allegedly beat them before later releasing some of them.

According to reports, military intelligence agents raided the home of the organization’s employees in Singa on Tuesday and arrested all workers, including Sudanese nationals and foreigners, without explanation. The four foreign workers were later released, while three Sudanese workers remain in custody, according to latest reports.

Radio Dabanga has approached ACTED and the Humanitarian Aid Commission (HAC) in Sennar for comment.

Kenana, White Nile

The National Umma Party (NUP) said in a statement that a military intelligence agency on Thursday detained three of its leaders and members in Kenana, White Nile State.

Those arrested included party secretary Sadig Adam Rahma, Younis Mohammed Younis and Awad Sadig Kabashi, who were later released. Hadi Hussein Tayeb from El Duim local government is reportedly still in custody.

‘Hostages’

Two brothers, lawyer Makkawi Mohammed Adam and university student MGDad Mohammed Adam, and two of their relatives, have reportedly been “held hostage” by military intelligence for a week in the Abu Hajar area of ​​Sennar, Abu Hajjar’s Musab Mohammed Adam said. Resistance Committees in Sennar.

He explained that intelligence services stormed their house last Sunday with heavily armed military vehicles and did not find them at home. They then proceeded to arrest their brothers and relatives to pressure them to surrender. The prisoners were then taken to the cells of the 17th Division in Singa and have not yet been released, nor have relatives been allowed to visit them. Musab’s father has also threatened the detention of more members of his family.

El Gezira

On Friday, military intelligence in El Gezira arrested lawyer and activist Salah El Tayeb, the head of the Change and Services Committees in the El Azazi Administrative Unit of the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF).
