Speaking at the Fianna Fail 1916 commemoration on Arbor Hill, Mr Benicio said his priorities would be around road safety and immigration.

Almost €370,000 was raised for 43-year-old Benicio through GoFundMe, with the Brazilian native benefiting from the fund with a Christmas holiday back to Brazil, where his wife and two children still live.

Caio Benicio was greeted at Rio de Janeiro airport by son Breno, wife Clara and daughter Lara.

Ahead of his trip to Brazil, Caio told the Irish Daily Mail that he had only booked a one-way ticket to his native country, but revealed his plans to return “in late January or early February.”

The father-of-two was passing Gaelscoil Choláiste Mhuire in Parnell Street, Dublin at lunchtime on November 23 when he saw an altercation which he initially thought was a fight between a man and a woman.

Benicio was one of three men, along with Alan LorenGuille and Warren Donohoe, who sprang into action to help disarm the attacker.
