NCDMB, SON top enabling efficiency in business environment and transparency ranking

The Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) has topped the 2023 Efficiency and Transparency Rankings released by the Presidential Enabling Business Environment Council (PEBEC).

According to PEBEC, in the reporting year 2023, high-performing MDAs have demonstrated commendable performance in both efficiency and transparency through rigorous adherence to their Service Level Agreements (SLAs). the need for massive improvements in key Business Facilitation Acts (BFA) compliance metrics.

Only 10 of the 39 MDAs score above 50%

Analysis of the report on the Business Facilitation Acts (BFA) Compliance reports from January to December 2023 showed that NCDMB scored 70.07 percent, Standards Organization of Nigeria (SON) 69.5 percent, Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) 65.12 percent, Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC), 65.04 percent, and Nigerian Export-Import Bank, (NEXIM) 63.51 percent.

PEBEC noted that with only 10 MDAs scoring above 50 percent and a weighted average score of 34.87 percent across the 39 MDAs, strategic measures to improve sector-specific BAF metrics will need to be prioritized.

“This requires MDAs to take concrete steps to improve efficiency and transparency assessments before the end of the 2024 reporting period.

“Most importantly, MDAs should establish BFA Implementation Reform Committees as soon as possible. These committees will be responsible for driving the BFA implementation initiatives in the MDAs, accelerating the steps taken in promoting a culture of transparency and accountability.

“This will further the implementation strategies of the eight-point agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR government, designed to drive economic reforms for sustainable inclusive growth across all sectors.

“We strongly urge the MDAs covered in this report to draw insights from empirical data and previous BFA reports (since 2018) to drive critical improvements in efficiency and transparency,” the organization added to it.

Earlier, the Special Adviser to the President on PEBEC and Investments, Jumoke Oduwole, had noted that the efficiency report measures compliance with timelines for service delivery in MDAs, while assessing transparency based on website updates, online service portals, detailed service information , timelines, costs, legal requirements and customer service contact information.

The Presidential Enabling Business Environment Council (PEBEC) was established by the Federal Government in July 2016 to oversee Nigerian business environment interventions, with the dual mandate of removing bureaucratic and legislative constraints on doing business and improving of perception of ease of doing business in Nigeria.
