Family’s devastation after ‘irreplaceable’ Eastwood mother of three was found dead in her home

The family of a woman found dead in her own home two days ago have spoken of their loss. They said Rachel McDaid’s death had caused “irreparable” damage. She was discovered at the property on Nottingham Road just after 11am on Friday (April 19).

Ms McDaid’s family have released a statement paying tribute to the 53-year-old mother of three. They said: “We are heartbroken by the loss of our beloved mother, daughter, sister, aunt and cousin.

“Rachel has been taken from us suddenly and we cannot come to terms with the fact that we will never see her beautiful face and smile again. As a family we were all so close, sharing jokes and precious time together, and the hole left by the loss of Rachel is irreparable. We are really devastated.’

An investigation was launched following Ms McDaid’s death, with detectives shortly afterwards arresting a suspect on suspicion of murder. The 60-year-old man is still in custody at the police station.

Chief Inspector Clare Dean, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “We cannot understand the pain Rachel’s family are currently experiencing. I would like to express my sincere condolences to the family at this incredibly difficult time and reassure them that we are doing everything in our power to bring them justice.

“We have arrested a suspect in connection with this incident, and they remain in custody where they are currently being questioned. I would like to reiterate that we believe this is an isolated incident and there is no greater risk. for the public.”
