Waltham Forest man, 34, charged with murder after 23-year-old was stabbed in neck

A man has been charged with murder after a man was stabbed in the neck in Waltham Forest. Mykola Yakymets, 34, was arrested on Thursday, April 18, after police were called to an address on South Birkbeck Road, E11, at 11.51pm.

Police were called to a report of a fight at the address and when officers arrived they found a man with stab wounds. The man, Petro Bebko, 23, died at the scene after police and paramedics administered first aid.

Both men lived together at the address on South Birkbeck Road. A post-mortem examination on April 19 found the cause of death to be a stab wound to the neck.

Chief Inspector Dan Card, responsible for policing in Waltham Forest and Newham, previously said of the attack: “I understand and share the shock that a violent incident like this will have on the local community in Leytonstone.

“However, I would like to reassure residents that an experienced team of specialist officers are already working diligently to establish what happened. Residents will see an increased police presence in the area in the coming days, including local officers.

“I would ask anyone with concerns to approach and speak to them, or alternatively speak to your local Safer Neighborhoods team.” Mykola Yakymets will appear in custody at Barkingside Magistrates’ Court on Monday, April 22.
