The police attribute the high crime rate to the excessive love of parents for children

CSP Kasimu Abdul, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Zaria Division, has attributed moral decadence and societal decay to the over-love that parents have for their children.

He made this known on Sunday at the formal handover of a vigilante gift donated by a philanthropist to improve security in Kofar Gayan Low-Cost in Zaria.

The DPO, represented by SP Abdullahi Aliyu, Assistant Officer-in-Charge of the Low-Cost Police Outpost, charged parents to ensure proper education of their wards.

He noted that the excessive love of parents for their children makes the job of security personnel very hectic in most cases, adding that “some parents may go to any lengths to free their children even if they knew that the children are guilty of the crime they are accused of. ”

Mr Abdul urged Low-Cost residents to help security personnel “so that together we can achieve our goal of ensuring the safety of lives and property.”

He charged both formal and non-formal security agencies to discharge their duties with the fear of God Almighty, adding that they were committed to serving humanity and not to harass innocent persons.

On his part, Aliyu Abubakar, Officer-in-Charge of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC), Low-Cost Outpost, said the police are constitutionally number one in civilian security operations.

Mr Abubakar encouraged people to support security personnel with credible intelligence to carry out their duties diligently: “if you see something, say something.”

Rilwan Al-Sudaney, civilian JTF commander in charge of Low-Cost, described security as a pillar for any meaningful development and advised that people should try to give vigilantes courage, support and the necessary assistance to succeed.

In his speech, Low-Cost Community Development Association (LCDA) chairman Shamsu Aliyu commended residents of the area for their cooperation and urged them to do more to ensure its safety.
