Barbara Maurine (nee Hillier) Daye
1942 – 2024
On April 19, 2024, Barbara Maurine Daye died following a courageous battle with dementia. Eldest child of Roy and Daisy Hillier, she was born October 11, 1942, in Grand Falls, Newfoundland
Charismatic, creative, with a sharp wit and great sense of humor, it was a pleasure to be in Barb’s presence. She was a beautiful person, honest and sincere. Barb was the rock of her family. A devoted wife, a sage and caring mother, a proud, hip grandmother and a fun-loving, steady friend. She loved to socialize, laugh, and to make people laugh. Barb was a skilled seamstress and custom made much of her fashionable wardrobe. She had a real sense of style and an impressive shoe collection! She enjoyed golf and loved spending time outside picking wildflowers and puttering around her yard.
Barb married Art Daye in 1963 and they started a family. They transferred around Newfoundland and Labrador living in Stephenville Crossing, Battle Harbour, Forteau, Goose Bay, Harbor Grace and Carbonear before returning to settle in Grand Falls. Barb stayed at home while her children were young and later worked as a legal secretary and a real estate agent.
Barb was predeceased by her parents Roy and Daisy (nee King) Hillier, and her father and mother-in-law, Arthur and Elizabeth (nee MacDonald) Daye.
Leaving to mourn, her loving husband of 60 years, Arthur Daye; her son, Bob, his wife Michelle (nee Howard) and their daughters Robyn and Laura Daye; her daughter Leslie, her husband Derek Jackman and their children, Luke and Heather Jackman; her siblings Allan (Suzanne) Hillier and Brenda (Alonzo) Beson, along with extended family and many wonderful friends, some lifelong.
Sincere thanks are extended to the staff of 3 South, at Corner Brook Long Term Care Home for their outstanding care and kindness, especially during her final days.
A gathering to celebrate and remember Barb’s life will take place at a later date in Grand Falls-Windsor. Donations can be made in Barb’s memory to the Alzheimer’s Society of Newfoundland and Labrador.
