Joel Dommett was cheered on by his wife and child as he raised money for charity by running the London Marathon in a giant piranha costume.

The 38-year-old comedian has been married to 35-year-old wife Hannah Cooper-Dommett since 2019 and they welcomed a son named Wilde in September last year. Joel was spotted racing around London on Sunday as he took part in the annual marathon – and stood out thanks to his elaborate and familiar outfit.

The TV presenter wore the piranha costume used by the winning celebrity of season five of The Masked Singer, which aired on ITV earlier this year. And the comedy star undoubtedly sweated even harder than expected as he completed the 26-mile race wearing the big outfit.

However, Joel was cheered on by Hannah and Wilde, with the proud wife and mother uploading a humorous video to social media showing him training in the fish costume. Hannah shared the clip along with a written statement of encouragement – which also included a striking statistic from a 2019 medical study that compared the effects of pregnancy on the body to those of enduring a brutal, months-long marathon.

Hannah typed: “Good luck Joel! You trained very hard. This is your moment… But remember… The physical intensity of pregnancy is like running a 40-week marathon. I’ll leave it at this… But you got this! We love you!” While baby Wilde was shown wearing a custom-made baby romper with the words “Go daddy!” written on the front and “Run fast!” on the back.

Hannah uploaded the funny clip to her Instagram grid, along with a caption that read: “You’ll take to this like a fish out of water!!” And many fans commented on the post saying they saw Joel on the marathon course. One surprised fan wrote: “Was that Joel we just saw in this fish costume? Brilliant,” along with a crying emoji. And another typed: “We are so proud of you Joel! Go Piranha, go!!!”

Joel himself revealed that he decided to take part in the 2024 marathon to raise awareness and funds for a cause close to his heart. Encouraging fans to donate via the London Marathon website, Joel wrote: “I’m running to raise awareness and money for an incredible charity that I’m proud to be a patron of – Shooting Star Children’s Hospice. Please give what you can – and if you can’t give anything, come down, check out the costume with a sweaty hidden man in it and cheer me on!

“Shooting Star Children’s Hospices supports babies, children and young people with life-threatening conditions and their families in Surrey and West London. Whether lives are measured in days, weeks, months or years, we are here to make every moment count. We support families from diagnosis to the end of life and during the grieving process with a range of nursing, practical, emotional and medical care.”
