Cebu Pacific receives 4th brand new aircraft

LOW-COST airline Cebu Pacific (CEB) said this weekend it has taken delivery of its fourth brand new Airbus A320neo aircraft for 2024 as it reaffirmed its commitment to sustainable aviation and operational efficiency.

“This aircraft delivery supports our goal of providing safe, reliable and affordable flights as demand for air travel remains high. We also continue to incorporate sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) into our operations as part of our decarbonization efforts, which could pave the way for more sustainable air travel in the years to come,” said Alex Reyes, CEB Chief Strategy Officer.

The brand new, more fuel-efficient A320neo arrived at Manila’s Ninoy Aquino International Airport on April 17 from the Airbus factory in Tianjin, China.

SAF is a drop-in fuel with properties similar to conventional aviation fuels. It requires no modifications to the aircraft or engines and has no negative impact on performance. The use of SAF results in a reduction of CO2 emissions of up to 80 percent over the entire life cycle of the fuel.

Cebu Pacific currently operates one of the youngest fleets in the world, with a diversified commercial fleet mix of eight Airbus 330s, 34 Airbus 320s, 21 Airbus 321s and 14 ATR turboprop aircraft.

The goal is to switch to a fully NEO (new engine option) fleet by 2028. Airbus’ A320neo aircraft are the latest generation aircraft that consume 15 percent less fuel per flight compared to the previous generation. The reduction in fuel consumption leads to a corresponding reduction in CO2 emissions from aircraft.

The airline currently flies to 35 domestic and 24 international destinations across Asia, Australia and the Middle East.

Shares of Cebu Pacific operator Cebu Air Inc. fell 2.33 percent to P27.30 last Friday.
