HTA Report: Maui County Hotels Lead Average Daily Rate in March: Maui Now

Hotel performance in Maui County continues to be affected by the aftermath of August’s wildfires, the Hawai’i Tourism Authority reports, but the county still led in revenue per available room in March due to its relatively higher average daily rate.

The Hawai‘i Hotel Performance Report notes that hotels in the Lahaina/Kā‘anapali/Kapalua region were occupied by a mix of displaced Lahaina residents affected by the March fires, first responders and visitors.

The Lahaina/Kā’anapali/Kapalua region had revenue per available room of $341, down 19.6% from 2023, but up 23.6% from 2019. The average daily rate for hotels in West Maui was $479, down 15.7% from 2023, but up 34.7% from 2019. Hotel occupancy in West Maui was 71.1%, down 3.5 percentage points from 2023 and also a decrease of 6.4 percentage points compared to 2019.

Overall, Maui County hotels achieved revenue per available room of $401, down 11.9% from 2023 and up 20.5% from 2019. The average daily rate was $581, down 10 .1% from 2023 and an increase of 36.8% from 2019. Maui’s hotel occupancy rate was 69.1%, which was 1.4 percentage points lower than 2023 and 9.3 percentage points lower than in 2019.

In Wailea, Maui’s luxury resort region, revenue per available room was $544, down slightly 0.4% from 2023 and down 6.4% from 2019.
