Nwanoro seeks free healthcare and resources for PWDs

DR Christopher Nwanoro, an activist for Persons with Disabilities (PLWDs), has appealed to government to provide free healthcare and assistive devices to Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) so that they can live a normal life.

Nwanoro, the Chairman of the National Disability Empowerment Forum (NADEF), a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO), made the call when he appeared at the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) Forum in Abuja on Sunday.

According to him, PWDs should have access to free health insurance and education scholarships up to university level as many of them still need jobs.

He emphasized the need to involve PWDs in government affairs to ensure inclusivity so that they do not feel left out.

He also appealed to organizations, communities and well-meaning Nigerians to assist people with disabilities with assistive devices so that they can lead independent lives.

He added that “by using technology, there are gadgets that can help people with disabilities find their way and meet their needs with less stress.”

He encouraged PWDs to embrace a high self-esteem lifestyle “because they are people too. We have so much to offer for the development of the country.

“Being blind doesn’t stop the brain from working; problems with hands or legs cannot prevent the brain from working; A hearing disorder does not make someone incapacitated for work.

“For someone like me, I went through stress, thorns and thistles before I could get an education and become who I am today.

“So for others, they are not meant to travel the same rough road that I did; the government should provide this.” (NAN)
