Lowering inflation is harder than lowering my marathon time, says Jeremy Hunt

Chancellor Jeremy Hunt has said it would be more painful to cut inflation than to cut his marathon time.

The Conservative politician was one of twenty MPs and peers who took part in the London Marathon on Sunday.

Mr Hunt was asked whether it was harder to reduce inflation or lower his marathon personal best (PB).

“I will tell you that the pain of achieving PB is much faster than the pain of reducing inflation,” he said.

“At least this will be over in about five hours.”

Mr Hunt said he felt “actually good” after finishing the marathon.

He added: “Alright actually, normally I feel pretty bad after a workout.

“But on the day itself you tend to stuff yourself with food that your children, your friends and your family bring.

“So I’m actually feeling good.”

However, the Chancellor said this marathon could be his last.

“I’m 57, I have to think about these things, but we’ll see,” he said.

“But it was a great experience and congratulations to the organizers of the London Marathon. What great work they do, London at its very best.”

Mr Hunt said he was running the marathon this year in honor of his brother Charles, who died of cancer.

“He was actually diagnosed at the Royal Surrey, my local hospital in Guildford, so I’m raising money for a new cancer center there,” he said.

“Over the three marathons I raised over £100,000.”
