A ship on the west coast of Newfoundland was found capsized near Port aux Port on Sunday morning.

Fish harvester Sam Anderson was fishing in the area around Molly Ann Cove and Rope Cove around 11 a.m. Sunday morning when he spotted a burning cabin on shore.

There he saw some men on the beach, he said, with a capsized ship nearby.

“We followed procedure, contacted the Coast Guard radio and tried to get him. We couldn’t reach him because the waters were too shallow and there was nothing we could do,” Anderson told CBC News.

Anderson said it was a remote area with no roads.

He said a Cormorant helicopter had been sent to the scene.

More to come.
