KOLKATA: CAA was a bone of contention at campaign rallies in Bengal on Sunday TMC and BJP is floundering over its implementation in the country.
While the Union Defense Minister Rajnath Singhaddressing several public meetings in North Bengal, urged that the law be implemented without overriding the state’s opposition, CM Mamata Banerjee said she would never allow this. The general secretary of TMC Abhishek Banerjee dared the Center to formally announce that NRC would not follow CAA.

Addressing a rally in Murshidabad, Singh said, “CAA is aimed at giving citizenship to those who have left countries like Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan for religious reasons. Mamata Banerjee and her party can oppose it. But CAA will be implemented in the country. at any cost.”

Rajnath said it was unfortunate that interfaith tensions were being fueled by the ruling party in Bengal, the homeland of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose and Chaitanya Mahaprabhu. “There is anarchy in Bengal,” he said.
Banerjee, while speaking at Kumarganj, said, “They (BJP) are questioning my authority to challenge CAA and NRC. Who are they to question me? What authority do they have to implement it unilaterally? When I said that we would not allow the implementation of CAA and NRC, I meant it. They tried to implement NRC in Assam. TMC was the only party that opposed it.
