Uddhav Thackeray: Ubt gets word about Anthem; What about Pm, Shah: Uddhav | Mumbai News

Mumbai: Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray on Sunday said his party had received a notice from the Election Commission of India (ECI) asking it to remove the words “Jai Bhavani” and “Hindu” from the new national anthem. said his party will not heed the ECI’s call and the poll body should first take action against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who had “openly used religion for campaigning”. “If they try to take action against us, they should take action against them first. What is happening is unfair,” he said. Thackeray said the party had not asked for votes in the name of religion in its national anthem. “We have used the slogan ‘Jai Bhavani, Jai Shivaji’ and we have said that your religion is Hindu.” “Tuljabhavani is the family deity of Maharashtra and the deity of Chhatrapati Shivaji. We will not tolerate any insult to her name. It is an insult to Marathi pride,” he said. “Tomorrow they will ask us not to say ‘Jai Shivaji’.” Thackeray accused the ECI of double standards and alleged that both Modi and Shah had voted in favor of votes because of religion. “During the recent elections in Karnataka, Prime Minister Modi said, ‘When you go to vote, say Jai Bajrangbali and press the button.’ Home Minister Amit Shah also said that if there is a BJP government (in Karnataka), there will be a free darshan of the Ram temple,” he said. He said he had written to the ECI about these statements since his father, late Shiv Sena founder Bal Thackeray was barred from voting or standing for elections for six years, on charges of using religion for campaigning. ‘I wrote to the ECI… to ask if the law in this area had changed since my father’s time. I didn’t get an answer. I sent a reminder but all we got was this love letter from the ECI,” he said. Thackeray also said that the party had been informed that the bags of its campaigners would be checked. “In that case, the bags of Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, Prime Minister Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah should also be checked. Open their bags and then open our bags,” he said.
